For the past couple years, Meditation helped me to face the changes in my life with a better attitude, making me less worried and more focused in the good things. Today, I highly recommend to anyone develop a regular meditation practice because I know, for my own experience, that is a great tool to become a better version of ourselves.

I'd like to share here 7 tips for those who wonder how to start their meditation practice.

1. Start practicing 2 minutes every day.  Meditation is a habit, by practicing 2 minutes every day and adding 2 minutes every week you can develop it in a easy way, and in 5 weeks you will be meditating for 10 minutes a day, which is AWESOME!  It's very difficult to be quiet and focused for 20 minutes when we are not used to do it.

2. Meditate in the morning.  Even though we can meditate at any time of the day, doing it first thing in the morning help us to develop a better mindset to face the rest of the day.

3. Find a meditation practice that works for you. You can try different meditation styles until you find the type that best suits you. If you find a practice that is pleasant for you, you will be more willing to practice every day.

4. Use your breath as a point of focus. When you notice that your awareness is wandering, gently return your attention to your breathing. Focusing on our breathing helps us stay in the present moment.

5. Find a comfortable position. Whether sitting on the floor or in a chair, it's important to be comfortable during the meditation practice. If you choose the floor, use a cushion or blanket to allow your hips be higher that your knees, and always keep your spine nice and long.

6. Use the available technology. Out there are many free resources full of guided meditations that you can use to start your practice. Free videos on YouTube, free podcasts or free apps are great tools to begin your meditation practice.

7. Make a commitment with yourself. If it is important to you, commit yourself to meditate at least 2 minutes a day for 21, 30 or 40 days and keep track of your progress.

I´m sure that a regular meditation practice can bring many benefits to your daily life. Like any habit, at the beginning meditation requires a little effort but it’s worth it.
