WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation has many definitions, but this is my favorite because it is clear and objective, and it works for all kinds of meditators, regardless of their religious tradition or spiritual path.

According to @dandapanillc, who is a Hindu priest and speaker, meditation "... is the practice of concentration, keeping awareness in one thing for a prolonged period of time."

He teaches that our conscience is like a ball of light and our mind is a huge house with many different areas inside. Using our consciousness, we can travel between different areas of our mind, and in meditation we choose an area to stay for a specific period of time, using our power and concentration.

This concept allows me to think that I can meditate every day and do anything. The only requirement is to keep my conscience in what I am doing. Yoga, cooking, eating, painting, reading, sitting meditation, chanting mantras are all meditation opportunities in our daily life.

I try to take at least 10 minutes every day to practice some kind of meditation, and one of my favorites is Japamala meditation. But you can find hundreds of different types, and I can promise that at least one will be great for you.

You can try a practice very easy to follow here.

And you? What is your favorite meditation definition? Please, let me know in the comments below.

With love,

Gaby
